Description

The Calais Archive Tagger plugin automatically goes through your archives and tags every post you’ve written. The plugin uses the Open Calais API to perform semantic analysis of your post text and suggest tags. If a post already contains a suggested tag, that tag isn’t added, but other new tags found are. It takes about 5 minutes to tag 200 posts.

Also see WP Calais Auto Tagger for suggesting tags as you write new posts.

Installation

  1. Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
  2. Add your Open Calais API key through the ‘Calais Archive Tagger’ sub-page of the ‘Plugins’ menu

You should receive the key immediately.

If you have already received an API key for use with WP Calais Auto Tagger, you needn’t reapply for one.

Faq

What’s new in version 1.1

The script now sleeps for half a second between posts to ensure you stay within the current Calais API rate limits (2 requests per second and 40,000 requests per day).

I’ve also wrapped the API call in a try/catch block so that any exceptions don’t cause a loop condition.

What’s new in version 1.2

The plugin now ensures no manually added tags are lost when adding new tags. E-mail addresses are no longer added as tags.

What’s new in version 1.3

Updated opencalais.php to support new entity types.

What’s new in version 1.4

Updated opencalais.php to use new API URL and support new entity types.

Visitor Like/Dislike Post Rating

October 30th, 2009 No comments

Table of contents

Description

Let your visitors rate your posts, using simple AJAX and jQuery to update the posts’ ratings dynamically. Visitors can either like or dislike your posts, which should provide you with simple, yet constructive, feedback of the content you include in your posts.

Installation

Simply activate the plugin from the ‘Plugins’ admin page and you’re done.

Faq

I can’t rate?

Administrators are not supposed to rate their own content. However, if you feel like doing it anyway, just logout from the admin panel, and you should be able to either dislike or like your own posts.

Can my visitors do more than like/dislike?

No. That’s the point. Visitors can either like or dislike your posts. No compromising or “Maybe I think some of it is good, I just don’t agree” stuff. Like or dislike, that’s it.

May anyone rate a post more than once?

No… What’s the point of that?

Skype Online Status

October 30th, 2009 No comments

Table of contents

Description

The plugin Skype Online Status allows you to add one or multiple, highly customizable and accessible (!) Skype buttons to your blog. You can pick any of the available Skype button themes that will show your online status and place them in your pages and posts content (with a neat little Skype quicktag button in the WYSIWYG editor), in your sidebar via widgets (unlimited number) or anywhere in your theme template files.

The Skype Status admin page and Skype Widget options are adequately annotated but there is also a Quick Guide section with lots of information on all the possible ways to get you blog Skyped. If you still cannot get it working the way you want to, find a Skype link to the developer on the Notes & Live Support section.

Button themes are mostly based on the themes you can find on Skype’s button wizard page but more feature rich, like showing your online status in the alt text of the image, more accessible (!) and much more customizable, like setting your own Status texts in your blogs language. Even a button to invoke normal phone calls or multichats or conference calls is possible!

Installation

  1. Activate plugin on the ‘Plugins’ page
  2. Configure (or update) your SkypeID and settings on the ‘Options’ > ‘Skype Status’ page
  3. Activate the widget or put the quicktag in your posts to display the Skype button on your blog pages.

Read more on usage in the Quick Guide section of the Options > Skype Status page, available after installation.

Faq

Why is my Skype button showing Offline even when I am online?

First, you have to change an option in your Skype client settings to make your online status publicly visible:

  1. Open your Skype client and go to ‘Options > Privacy’ or ‘Advanced’ (depending on your client version).
  2. Find the option ‘Allow my status to be shown on the web’ and place a checkmark beside it.
  3. Close the Options window and change your Skype status to Offline and back Online again to update the Skype server.

If your online status is still incorrect, type in your webbrowser http://mystatus.skype.com/yourskypename and check what is shown there. The plugin takes your status directly from the Skype server and should correspond with your status shown on the above URL (using your skype name obviously). If your status is not correct on that URL, it basically is out of your hands. You can wait for the Skype server to get ‘up to date’ or browse the Skype forums for fixes suggested by others…

I have found a bug. Where do I report it?

For bug reports, go to Skype Online Status Google Group and describe what is happening there. Please provide as much related info as you can but at least give me your plugin and Wordpress version number.

I have a feature request. Where do I ask?

For all ‘normal’ feature requests go to Skype Online Status Google Group but if you want custom development, please contact me directly. I will gladly consider any proposal. You can find my Skype ID on the Notes & Live Support section of your WordPress ‘Options’ > ‘Skype Status’ page, available after installation. Or browse to my website 4Visions.

I have trouble setting up a Skype button on my blog. Where do I get help?

Have you read the Quick Guide section of your WordPress ‘Options’ > ‘Skype Status’ page, available after installation already? For all remaining questions, go to Skype Online Status Google Group and post them there. I will be happy to respond in due time :)

I would like to contribute. Is that possible?

Of course! What did you have in mind? Monetary funding is always appreciated but if you can help me out in development, that’s cool too :) Right now, translation (.mo) files are MORE then welcome! Read translation instructions (also included in the latest package) for more info.

Any small donation via PayPal to keep me developing is VERY welcome. Thanks!

Read more on usage in the Quick Guide section of your WordPress ‘Options’ > ‘Skype Status’ page, available after installation.

What’s New

Since version 1.1 there have been some major changes to the layout of the ‘Options’ > ‘Skype Status’ page. Documentation has been much extended.

And some new features:

  • internationalization
  • widgetized!
  • lots of new templates
  • some new tags for the template files,
  • a ‘Reset options’ button to revert to original settings and a ‘Remove’ button to completely clear the plugin settings from your database
  • a quicktag to display a Skype Status button in posts and page content!
  • editable template
  • language switch for Skype default status texts
  • download skype now link (replaceable with your own referral link since version 2.6)

Since version 2.6.3 there are unlimited customizable Skype Status Widgets available :) Since version 2.6.4 there is internationalization… Anyone who wants to contribute, please consider doing a translation :)

Notes

Wish List

For version 3 and beyond :)

  • More translations! Read translation instructions (also included in the latest package) for more info.
  • Skypecasts widgets !
  • Skype-like button theme wizard…
  • Upload your own button/template file
  • integration with WP user system (skype field on the Profile page, ++)
  • Get XML online status (and local time?)

Bugs

Please report anything you find on Skype Online Status Google Group. Provide as much related info as you can, so we can reproduce the error… And fix it :)

Known issues

  • The javascript provided by Skype that detects whether Skype is installed (client side), does not work properly on Linux. It defaults to displaying a download popup even if Skype is installed on the visitors computer after the Skype button is clicked. Hopefully, Skype will fix this some day :/

bmp, gif, png, jpg, and jpeg

What movie file types will this plugin automatically add Shadowbox to?

swf, flv, f4v, dv, mov, moov, movie, mp4, asf, wm, wmv, avi, mpg and mpeg

What audio file types will this plugin automatically add Shadowbox to?

mp3 and aac

When I click on my YouTube links I see the full YouTube web site and not just my video. What is wrong?

You have probably used the wrong form of the YouTube URL. If you used something like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3D3kFn_3xRY that will disaply the YouTube website and not just the video. To just get the video use a link that looks like http://www.youtube.com/v/3D3kFn_3xRY.

Can I selectively load Shadowbox on pages that need it?

Yes. However this functionality requires WordPress 2.8. If you are running WordPress 2.8 and you would like to enable this functionality visit ‘Settings’ -> ‘Shadowbox JS’ and set Enable Smart Loading to true.

Why isn’t this plugin working?

Check to make sure that you have <?php wp_head(); ?> in your themes header.php and <?php wp_footer(); ?> in your themes footer.php. See the default WordPress theme for examples. Also see the FAQ below.

This plugin has stopped working since I installed another plugin or another plugin has stopped working since I installed this plugin. What can I do?

Try changing the Javascript Library used by this plugin to something other than ‘None’ on the Shadowbox JS settings page in the WordPress admin.

Search Unleashed

October 30th, 2009 No comments

Table of contents

Description

Extends the standard WordPress search to include data from posts, pages, comments, and meta-data, as well as the full content of data inserted by plugins. This last feature makes it unique amongst search plugins. For example, you may have a plugin that uses shortcodes to insert data:

[product 1]

The standard search will just see the shortcode. Search Unleashed will see the actual data inserted into your post.

Search phrases are highlighted, as are incoming searches from Google, Yahoo, and most other search engines. This makes it very easy to see exactly what phrase matched and why the post is being shown.

Searches can be restricted to specific categories, tags, or meta-data. For example, you can search for ‘persian’ in the ‘cats’ category.

  • Transparently extends WordPress search with a full text search that supports wildcards and logical operations
  • Search through posts, pages, comments, meta-data, urls, and titles
  • Priority based searching – configure how much priority to give to the various parts of a post
  • Extendable search engines. Comes with three search engines (standard, MySQL fulltext, and Lucene)
  • Data from plugins is included in the search – this is very important as previously any plugins that inserted data into posts were not included in searches
  • Everything can be configured – select exactly what data you want to search
  • Smart highlighting that shows a contextual snapshot of the search data
  • Incoming search highlight. Searches made through Google, Yahoo, Altavista, Baidu, Sogou, and MSN are all highlighted
  • No changes are made to standard WordPress database tables
  • Advanced search widget

The plugin is available in: * English * Deutsch by Frank Bueltge, Gerhard Lehnhoff, and Andre * Swedish by Olle Hellgren * Russian by Lecactus * Italiano by Dario * Dutch by Evert * French by Vincent Granger * Polish by Krzysztof Kowalik * Spanish by Ivan Garcia * Turkish by Mehmet Karac * Japanese by Hiroaki Miyashita * Chinese by Yunfang Shang * Brazillian Portuguese by Joao Miguel * Danish by Georg S. Adamsen * Lithuanian by WordPress TVS – Audrius * Belorussian by Marcis Gasuns * Czech

Installation

  1. Go to the plugin management page and enable the plugin
  2. Configure the plugin from Manage/Search Unleashed

You can find full details of installing a plugin on the plugin installation page.

Faq

How does this work?

An index is made of all appropriate data, including the output from any plugins. Typically this does not occur as the standard WordPress search is made against raw data, as opposed to data that has been processed by plugins.

Only relevant data is included in the index to keep the index as small and fast as possible.

The index is updated anytime a post is edited.

Role Scoper

October 30th, 2009 No comments

Table of contents

Description

Role Scoper is a comprehensive access control solution, giving you CMS-like control of reading and editing permissions. Assign restrictions and roles to specific pages, posts or categories.

How it works:

Your WordPress core role definitions remain unchanged, and continue to function as default permissions. User access is altered only as you expand it by assigning content-specific roles, or reduce it by setting content-specific restrictions.

Users of any level can be elevated to read or edit content of your choice. Restricted content can be withheld from users lacking a content-specific role, regardless of their WP role. Deactivation or removal of Role Scoper will return each user to their standard WordPress access (but all RS settings remain harmlessly in the database in case you change your mind).

Scoped role restrictions and assignments are reflected in every aspect of the WordPress interface, from front end content and navigation to administrative post and comment totals. Although Role Scoper provides extreme flexibility and powerful bulk administration forms, basic usage is just a set of user checkboxes in the Post/Page Edit Form.

Partial Feature List

  • Customize access for specific Pages, Posts, Categories
  • Assign roles to User Groups (or directly to user)
  • Control Read and/or Edit access
  • Pages and Category listing match modified access
  • Category post counts and tag cloud match modified access
  • Page and category listings maintain tree structure even if some branches are hidden
  • File Attachment filter blocks direct URL requests if user can’t read corresponding post/page
  • Customizable Hidden Content Teaser (or hide posts/pages completely)
  • Control which categories users can post to
  • Control which pages users can associate sub-pages to
  • Assign additional blog-wide, type-specific role(s) for any user
  • Can elevate Subscribers to edit desired content (ensures safe failure mode)
  • Inheritance of Restrictions and Roles to sub-categories / sub-pages
  • Default Restrictions and Roles for new content
  • Default Groups for new users
  • Un-editable posts/pages are excluded from the editing list
  • Specify element(s) in Edit Form to withhold from non-Editors
  • RSS Feed Filter with HTTP authentication option
  • Optimized to limit additional database queries
  • Inline descriptive captions for each of the extensive options and settings
  • Supports translation (contribute your own!)
  • Pending Revisions allow Contributors to suggest changes to a currently published post/page

For more information, see the Usage Guide or Support Forum.

Support

  • Most Bug Reports and Plugin Compatibility issues addressed promptly following your support forum submission.
  • Author is available for professional consulting to meet your configuration, troubleshooting and customization needs.

Installation

Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress

Faq

How can I prevent low-level users from seeing the Roles/Restrictions menus and Edit boxes?

In your blog admin, navigate to Roles > Options. In the “Content Maintenance” section, set the option “Roles and Restrictions can be set” to “by blog-wide Editors and Administrators” or “by Administrators only”. Click the Update button.

How does Role Scoper compare to Role Manager or Capability Manager?

Role Scoper’s functionality is entirely different and complementary to RM and CM. RM/CM do little more than alter WordPress’ definition of the capabilities included in each role. That’s a valuable task, and in many cases will be all the role customization you need. Since RM/CM modifications are stored in the main WordPress database, they remain even if RM/CM is deactivated.

Role Scoper is useful when you want to customize access to specific content, not just blog-wide. It will work with the WP roles as a starting point, whether customized by RM/CM or not. To see how Role Scoper’s role definitions correlate to your WordPress roles, navigate to ‘Roles’ > ‘Options’ > ‘RS Role Definitions’ in your blog admin. Role Scoper’s modifications remain only while it stays active.

Why are there so many options? Do I really need Role Scoper?

It depends on what you’re trying to accomplish with your WordPress installation. Role Scoper is designed to be functionally comprehensive and flexible. Great pains were taken to maintain performance and user-friendliness. Yet there are simpler permission plugins out there, particularly if you only care about read access. Review Role Scoper’s feature list and decide what’s important to you.

Why doesn’t Role Scoper limit direct access to files that I’ve uploaded via FTP?

Role Scoper only filters files in the WP uploads folder (or a subfolder). The uploads folder must be a branch of the WordPress directory tree. The files must be formally attached to a post / page via the WordPress uploader or via the RS Attachments Utility.

In your blog admin, navigate to ‘Roles’ > ‘Options’ > ‘Features’ > ‘Attachments’ > ‘Attachments Utility’.

Where does Role Scoper store its settings? How can I completely remove it from my database?

Role Scoper creates and uses the following tables: groups_rs, user2group_rs, role_scope_rs, user2role2object_rs. All RS-specific options stored to the WordPress options table have an option name prefixed with “scoper_”.

Due to the potential damage incurred by accidental deletion, no automatic removal is currently available. You can use a SQL editing tool such as phpMyAdmin to drop the tables and delete the scoper options.

Popupper is a plugin for Wordpress versions 2.5 and greater that allows a blogger to insert links that when the reader mouses over the links it shows a popup.

The popup can be text, image, or both, and is popped up via javascript. This plugin is useful because the wordpress editting interface does not allow you to enter javascript.

Some people may call these tooltips, the difference between these and conventional tooltips is that these may contain an image.

Installation

Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress

Faq

What can be turned into a popup?

Any text that you select in a post or a page can be turned into a popup.

How can I tell that the text is a popup?

The text is decorated in someway, you can choose the text to be underlined, double-underlined, boxed, or highlighted with various colors.

The popup button is grayed out in my WYSIWYG editor.

The button stays gray in the WYSIWYG editor until you select text that you wish to use for the anchor of the popup. The anchor of the popup is the text that triggers the popup when the reader mouses over it.

What are the current limitations on the popups?

Currently, there is not a good way to choose the height and width of the popup, it is chosen automatically. Future work would be to allow this to be customized.

In addition, once a popup is created there is not a good way to go back and edit the popup, instead you need to delete the old one and create a new one. Future work is planned to address this.

I created a popup, but I don’t see in the WYSIWYG editor.

The Wordpress editor does not allow the javascript needed to show popups, but you can see your popup when you preview the page.

I installed the plugin, but installation failed after pressing Complete Installation, showing me a text in a red rectangle?
Cause: Either curl / curl functions is disabled on your server or your hosting blocks API calls to the Kaltura servers.

  • Solution 1: Enable curl and it’s functions on the server (or have the hosting company enable it for you).
  • Solution 2: Remove any blocking of external calls from the server.

I can’t activate the plugin, it presents an error message after clicking Activate on the plugin list
It might be caused due to an old version of PHP. The Kaltura wp plugin is written for PHP4 and PHP5 with the use of classes and static members, these are not supported on earlier versions of PHP. Upgrade to PHP5 / later. If upgrading doesn’t solve this issue or you already have PHP5 on your server, post the error information on the forum and we’ll help you. (http://community.kaltura.org/viewforum.php?f=4). Support for PHP4 was added on version 1.0

When I try to activate the plugin I get the message : “Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.”
This problem could happened if you have a low memorylimit in your php environment and a lot of plugins installed. For a simple test deactivate all other plugins and try then to activate Flash Album Gallery again.

I get the message “Fatal error: Allowed memory size of xxx bytes exhausted” or get the “Error: Exceed Memory limit.”. What does this means ?
This problem could happened if you have a low memorylimit in your php environment or you have a very large image (resolution, not size). The memory limit sets the maximum amount of memory in bytes that a script is allowed to allocate. You can either lower the resolution of your images or increase the PHP Memory limit (via iniset, php.ini or htaccess). If you didn’t know how to do that, please contact your web hoster.
